The sowing of seeds is generally carried out in the protected areas. To meet the required germination conditions, the basic facilities should be provided, such as rain protection or appropriate shading and cooling, ensuring their budding rate.
Place loose soil (fine peat, turf, or leaf mold) in a flowerpot or seed tray.
Water the soil thoroughly and sow the seeds evenly over the soil. (water mixed with carbendazim or topsin or chlorothalonil achieve the purpose of disinfection)
There is no need to cover small seeds (such as thyme, petunia, chamomile, and begonia seeds) with soil, but you should keep the soil moist without watering too much. Use fine mouthed spray watering can to moisturize. If the water is large, the seeds will be easily washed away or burned deeply into the soil, because small seeds do not sprout easily on top of the soil. It is suggested that put a wet paper on the soil before watering, so that the seeds won't fall and remain moist. It has been proved that the germination rate of seeds which are covered by wet paper is much higher than that of direct seeding on the soil.
For larger seeds, you should cover them 2-3 times thicker than the size of the seed.
The amount of overlying soil is also related to the photophilous and photophobic feature of seeds. Photophobic seeds must be covered with soil and can't be exposed to sun after sowing.
If seeds are covered with plastic wrap, it should be removed after seeds germinate. Move the flowerpot in time to see the light.
After seed germination, some liquid fertilizer should be applied timely.
When seeds grow 2-3 leaves, they can be transplanted. 5-6 leaves plant should be transplanted in time. Before transplanting, place a little slow-release granule fertilizer (such as compound fertilizer) and a bit of ripe organic fertilizer in soil.
If you want the plant to be plump in the future, you can sharpen it slightly. It also plays the role of dwarfing.
